Worth the hype? Tarte Shape Tape Concealer

The concealer has been on everyone’s lips since its release and there is probably no one who has never heard of it. The last concealer that got so much hype was the NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer, which I also tried and found terrible. Accordingly, I was extremely curious to see what the hype was this time around. In the USA I was astonishingly reluctant to buy beauty, but that I had to take the hyped Shape Tape Concealer with me and try it out was already clear before I left. I bought it back then from Ulta in the color light neutral. At home I noticed that this color currently matches my skin tone perfectly, so I can cover imperfections one-to-one with color. In front of my eyes, however, I always prefer a slightly lighter shade so that the area appears a little brighter. Not too much, because I don’t want to highlight and contour properly. That’s why, after some time of testing, I ordered a second color from Tarte and would now like to finally introduce the concealer to you.Shape TART tape concealerVegan and Cruelty Freecurrently available in 14 colors10 ml.

Packaging, dosage & consistency

Packaging design is always a matter of taste, but I always think Tarte’s packaging is very pretty. The Shape Tape Concealer comes in a rather thick tube that contains 10 ml of product. That’s a lot more than other concealers. The applicator is also surprisingly large and at first seemed daunting to me. For comparison, you can see a blend brush and my finger above (of course I never thought of using a different concealer …). But the scraper works amazingly well, in the picture you can see that only the middle, the applicator reservoir, contains product and the applicator itself is cleanly stripped off. For me this is also the perfect amount for under both eyes and the job goes extremely quickly due to the size.Since the concealer is full coverage, the consistency can no longer be described as “light”. It is already thick, thicker than the Naked Skin Concealer from Urban Decay, but not yet as thick and pasty as the Radiant Creamy Concealer from NARS.

Application and result

Since the concealer also covers a lot, you should be careful not to apply too much product. Too much will settle in the eye wrinkles with any concealer, that’s simply a fact. I myself have a few years under my belt and correspondingly pronounced wrinkles under my eyes, and my eye area is often dry. This usually makes working with concealer difficult. However, I only have problems with the shape tape if I really use too much product. I always work in the thick texture with a damp beauty blender and the additional moisture always gives me a nice finish that has never looked too dry in my eyes. Despite the high coverage, the concealer can be worked in and faded out very well,It is not true that he does not crea at all. Of course, he creamed, because when the first wrinkles appear, every concealer creamed. I am convinced of that. However, I think that the shape tape is absolutely within limits and if I pay attention to my order and set it with a little powder, I am very satisfied with the result. And I absolutely can’t complain about the opacity. I would even argue that this is the first concealer that can cover the shadows under my eyes to my complete satisfaction. It also works wonderfully on blemishes and redness on the face – but here you really have to make sure that you catch your skin tone, because you shouldn’t highlight pimples!

Insider tip – not only for shape tape!

Creasing means that the excess product settles in your wrinkles, which of course emphasizes them even more. And as already mentioned several times, this happens to me personally with almost every concealer, whether thick, thin, full coverage or sheer. That’s why I initially apply each concealer normally, but then wait a moment and then continue with my eyebrows or bronzer and blush, for example. In this short time, the concealer will already settle in the wrinkles. That’s why I then take a facial tissue with which I carefully remove the excess product. Simply dab carefully over the area. Only then do I set my concealer very lightly with a transparent powder.

Worth the hype?

For me it is. I’m a fan. You’ve heard me complain about my (in my opinion) dark circles under the eyes and that drugstore concealers never cover enough.I tried the NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer and although the opacity is really strong, this concealer had the problem that I always have with highly opaque products: it was way too dry and pasty. It looked terrible on me under the eyes and I couldn’t understand what everyone thought about this part. Until I noticed that all the beauty gurus on Youtube are only in their early 20s and that’s the simple explanation. Because at this age you just don’t have the problems that you did in your early 30s. I have wrinkles, no wrinkles under the eyes and concealer creases. Period, end. And the drier the consistency, the more dehydrated this area looks due to the wrinkles. To cut a long story short: NARS couldn’t fix it.Curtain up for tart.Tarte scores with extremely high coverage and has a not too dry, pasty consistency. Although it is certainly not a “light” product, it is so easy to spread and work in that you never have too thick a layer under your eyes. In addition, it donates at least enough moisture that the area doesn’t look too dry for me.Of course, I don’t know how that would behave with extremely dry skin, so I would be more careful with this skin type. But for oily, normal and slightly dry skin, I think it’s great and would definitely recommend it to others.
