Choose your makeup base according to your skin and needs

Makeup bases are the starting point when it comes to enhancing or manifesting beauty in both men and women. The truth is that for a makeup to be as beautiful as possible, it is necessary to choose the base that best suits our needs and skin characteristics.

Choosing the correct foundation is something few people really control. In addition, we must bear in mind that there is a wide range of options and varieties on the market where it is very easy to get lost.

For this reason, at Canarias MakeUp we are convinced that there is a perfect makeup base for your skin and we tell you the factors to take into account when choosing:

For hundreds of years, makeup was used as a natural way to express emotions, celebrate or simply manifest beauty.

What kind of foundation can I find?

As you already know, makeup base is one of the first products that we apply to the skin when applying makeup. It is the base on which the entire subsequent process will be carried out, so choosing a good base will result in a final result that is similar to what is expected.

  • Liquid bases

Liquid makeup bases are the most popular, common and easy to use.

Normally, they are suitable for all skin types, but with some specific formulations for each one:

In the case of combination / oily skin, the use of those containing oil should be avoided since this type of product will help the skin to generate more oil, providing a brighter and more artificial appearance. In addition to contributing to the clogging of pores and the appearance of pimples.

For dry skin, containing an oil base is ideal, as it hydrates and provides a juicy appearance to the face.

  • Cream or mousse bases

Cream foundations are not as common in manufacturers’ catalogs as liquid foundations.

It is a product made up of water-in-oil emulsions. Within this classification we can differentiate:

  • Cream-type bases
  • Mousse-type bases

These types of bases leave a very natural finish. In the case of oily or combination skin, its use is not recommended as they do not absorb well and the finish disappears quickly and easily. But, if it is ideal for dry skin, achieving good hydration and recovery of the brightness of the face.

  • Powder bases

Powder foundations may be the most widely used type of foundation, especially for combination / oily skin. For this reason, most manufacturers have a line of products of this type, which, in turn, is divided into: Compact powder bases and mineral powder bases. For the latter, a brush is necessary for its correct application.

  • Bar bases

Stick foundation is probably the most unusual to see. We can find it in areas of professional makeup, since its main characteristic is full coverage.

For combination or oily skin, a correct seal will be necessary after application. In addition, it is not recommended a daily use of them, since it could reverse in greater excess of sebum.

  • Bases BB Cream

BB Cream make-up bases are one of the most innovative and revolutionary products in recent years on the cosmetic market. The demand is so great that they have meant that most manufacturers have this line of products.

These types of bases have three functions:

  • Cover blemishes, unifying skin tone
  • Protect from the effects of the sun’s rays
  • 100% natural and lightweight finish

BB Creams are ideal for any skin type.

Importance of choosing the right shade for your makeup base

Choosing the tone of the makeup base is a task that seems somewhat easy, but it really is not.

To find the foundation that best suits your skin, you should consider the following steps:

  1. Know your skin tone.

For this you must look at the tone of the veins. If the veins tend to be greenish, your makeup tone should be warm. If, on the other hand, it tends more towards blue tones, your makeup tone should be cold. If your veins are almost imperceptible, you will be neutral in tone.

  • Cold: bases with a tendency to pink are recommended
  • Warm: bases with a tendency to gold are recommended
  • Neutral: bases with a tendency to beige are recommended

Another way to know your skin tone is through tanning. If you tend to turn red when you sunbathe and more than brown, your skin tends to pink, your skin tone is cold. If you tan easily and the tan lingers, your tone is warm.

  1. Always try makeup on your face.

A common mistake is to try it on the hand or the forearm, never being the color of both the same as our face, so it is totally inadvisable.

  1. Natural light

When we are trying the makeup on our face, it is important to do it with natural daylight. If this is not possible, because we are testing it in a store, do it under a white light, thus trying to see the result as natural as possible.

  1. recommendations

If in summer we find ourselves with a more tanned tone than when we bought the makeup base, it can be solved with the application of bronzing powders. Avoiding buying a makeup base every time our tone varies.

If you have bought a base that is too light or dark, remember that in Canarias Makeup you can find specific products to lighten or darken your makeup base, thus avoiding losing the purchase of said base.
